A trek to Nar-Phu Valley is a wonderful journey into the remote and unexplored territory located north of Annapurna Range in western Nepal. This rugged is your ticket to the exotic landscapes that are less frequented by trekkers each year in Nepal. At the crossroads of Himlung Himal expedition trail, Nar-Phu Valley trek is complete with stops at lakes, rivers, forests, mountains, meadows, waterfalls, and gorges. Witness a local culture that dates back centuries and explore old monasteries and even some ruins.
The program takes you from Jagat, a point in Annapurna Circuit to the hills of Koto, following an off-the-beaten-path to the remote valleys of Nar and Phu. Lying north of Manang beyond the Kang-La Pass, these villages have wonderful panoramas of several peaks of Annapurna Massif. Further north, the valleys open up to expansive landscapes and high-altitude pastures with mountains ahead. The dramatic views, the alpine environment and the quietness – all give a sense of serenity while you trek here.
This restricted area is in the district of Manang just North of the popular Annapurna Circuit. You will need a special trekking permit to visit this region, which will be arranged by the team at Multi Adventure. You will pass through Koto, Meta and the village of Phu. The Tashi Lakhang Monastery where we will be staying, is a notable monastery in Nepal. Trekking further through the moraines, we will come to Nar and have wonderful views of Annapurna and Tilicho peaks. We will further cross Kang-La Pass, come to a point in Annapurna Circuit and journey to Thorang-La pass to Jomsom.

Day 3: TREK FROM JAGAT TO DHARAPANI (1965M) 6/7H TREK
It’s a seven hour trek today. Starting after breakfast, we descend to the river and cross it. The terrain gets more and more beautiful as we head north until reaching Tal. At this point the giant peaks of Annapurna have already come into view. Take a rough trail from Tal, cross a dense forest to arrive at the village of Karte, and reach Dharapani in the Manang Valley where we will stay for the night.
Day 4: TREK FROM DHARAPANI TO KOTO (2615M) 5/6H TREK
At first the trail climbs along a narrow trail through a forest of fir and pine, and then comes to a river. We follow along the river and clip upwards through a forest of oak and maple. Coming out of the forest, we will have excellent views of Annapurna II and Manaslu Range all the way to Koto. The village of Koto is mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. Here, we will sleep in a camp tonight
Day 5: TREK FROM KOTO TO META (3565M) 6/7H TREK
We will begin after breakfast through a dense forest along a narrow and steep trail. As most of the trail today passes near a gorge made by Nar-Phu River, we will be walking in the cool shades. We will pass through cliffs, bamboo groves, and pine forests. We will even come across a cave and, with a detour, a natural hot spring. Take a break here and continue to Dharmashala. Take a second break here, and clip up a valley to reach Meta. Set up camp for the night in this beautiful location.
Day 6: TREK FROM META TO PHU GAON (4050M) 6/7H TREK
Start early with a quick breakfast. Pack your bags and climb the steep winding trail near ridges and moraines. The vegetation is not so dense in this region but today you will have crystal-clear views of the surrounding valleys and hills. Next up, you will pass through some chortens and have wonderful views of Annapurna II and Pisang Peaks. Once you’ve arrived at Phu, you will see an old forts. Set up camp for the night here at Phu.
Day 7: A DAY OF REST AT PHU
It’s a day of rest here at Phu. Start at leisure in the morning, take a stroll around the village and see the wide valleys above. Make sure that you take short hikes around to see the amazing landscape. We recommend hiking to a pasture located above the village. Keep fit during the day but return to Phu and explore the village more to witness a unique lifestyle. Sleep early to save up on energy.
Day 8: TREK FROM PHU GAUN TO NAR (4115M) 6/7H TREK
Starting from Nar today, we will trek back to the first gate and as soon as we come out of the three gates of Phu, we will head right. We descend through rivers and ruins before arriving at a beautiful gorge. The views are great here, ideal for a break. Then we will ascend through stupas and chortens to arrivea at the village of Nar.
Day 9: A DAY ACCLIMATIZE AT NAR
Take a day off at Nar and enjoy the quiet lifestyle in stark contrast to your regular routine. Have a leisurely breakfast in serenity. Later in the day, take short hikes in and around the town – and witness the lifestyle of the village. This is an important day of rest as it will help you acclimatize at the altitude and help you warm up the muscles for an exciting trip ahead.
Day 10: TREK FROM NAR TO NGAWAL (3350M) VIA KHANG-LA PASS (5365M) 8/9H TREK
It’s a long day of trek today, so start early. Ascend through a steep trial with views of Kangru Peak. Arrive at a pasture by a river and trek along with magnificent views of Pisang Peak ahead. Take a break and continue on to Kang-La Phedi, the base of Kang-La Pass. Gradually climb up to have a wonderful views of Pisang, Gangapurna, a section of Annapurna Massif, and Tilicho Peak. If it’s a clear day, you will see the airstrip of Hongde as well. After a break at the pass, descend through a scenic trail to the beautiful village of Ngawal. Set up camp for the night here.
Day 11: TREK FROM NGAWAL TO MANANG (3545M) 4/5H TREK
It’s an easy day of trek to Manang. Along the way, you will have wonderful views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gandharva Chuli, Gangapurna, and Pisang peaks. The trail is nearly flat once you begin walking along the bank of Marsyangdi River. Take a break and then enter a pine forest, cross farmlands, and villages until you arrive at the village of Manang. Here you will stay at a lodge or camp for the night.
Day 12: TREK FROM MANANG TO YAK KHARKA (4090M) 4/5H TREK
After breakfast, leave Manang Village, cross a glacial stream and take the route coming out of the Marshyangdi Valley. From there our route turns north crossing a grassland, some juniper woods prior to arriving at Ghunsa hamlet. From Ghunsa, we cross yet another pasture, cross a river and come to an ancient mani wall. Have a brief stop here, take some pictures and trek a little further to arrive at the village of Yak Kharka at 4,110 meters. Stay overnight at Yak Kharka.
Day 13: TREK FROM YAK KHARKA TO THORANG PHEDI (4450M) 4/5H TREK
Thorang Phedi is actually the base of the popular Thorang-La Pass. “Phedi” literally means “base”. After breakfast, we leave Yak Kharka and trek uphill, cross a river to Ledar village where we make a stop. Rest for some time, then trek trough cliffs and arrive at Thorang Phedi. Here we will be staying for the night.
Day 14: TREK FROM THORONG PHEDI TO THORONG PASS (5416M) TO MUKTINATH (3860M) 8H TREK
In the morning you will see how wonderful the views of the mountains are. Drinking your coffee or tea, you might want to identify the mountains one by one – but these are lesser known mountains with legends of their own. Pack your bags, for it’s a long day with nearly nine hours of walking. First, trek to Thorang-La Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in the world. Enjoy the feeling, take some photos, and move on. Next, we will be trekking to the Valley of Muktinath on the other side of the pass. Day 15: TREK FROM MUKTINATH TO KAGBENI TO JOMSON (2720M) 6/7H TREK
Leaving behind the pilgrimage site of Muktinath, we head towards Kagbeni immediately after breakfast. Further, the windy village of Jomsom past Kagbeni, used to be a trading town when business was flourishing between Tibet and Nepal in the middle ages. Today, it is a quiet village at the foot of the mountains. Once here, you can visit the Ecological Museum frequented by trekkers. Enjoy your stay at Jomsom tonight in the vicinity of the mountains before heading back to Pokhara tomorrow.
Day 16: FLY FROM JOMSOM TO POKHARA 18M FLIGHT
We will take an early-morning flight from Jomsom as later in the day flights are not operated due to high winds. It can get so windy in Jomsom that the locals have stories about flying boulders and sweeping stones! In Pokhara, you can enjoy the rest of day sipping beer by the lake or, if you feel like it, resting in the hotel room. In the evening though, do not miss the “Thakali” daal-bhaat in Pokhara.
Day 17: DRIVE FROM POKHARA TO KATHMANDU (6/7H DRIVE
Depending upon the schedule, you can drive or fly to Kathmandu from Pokhara. Once you are in the capital, have a free day enjoying shopping, hot-water bathing, relaxing in a sauna, or simply seeing around town. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 18: KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING
After breakfast, we will take you on a sightseeing tour of some iconic places in the Kathmandu Valley, that will essentially include UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the evening, you are invited to join us for a farewell dinner.
